    Summary

    This case study features the Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament (NIPP), a participatory body organized by the Age Sector Platform charity and launched on February 23 2011 by the First and deputy First Ministers of Northern Ireland. The NIPP aims to empower older people (those aged 60 and above) in policy making and implementation in Northern Ireland.

    Summary

    This case study features a series of workshops, assemblies, and information sessions to promote civic engagement in the renewal of a municipal square in Italy. After the participant selection process, which paid special attention to children, three phases of participation took place. The project ultimately fostered community discussion and understanding before the renovation of the square.

Nella provincia di Forlì e Cesena, regione Emilia Romagna, il processo è cominciato nel 2003 ed è attualmente in corso.
  • Proposition 31 was a ballot measure created by California Forward and voted on by the people of California during the General Election held on November 6, 2012. Proposition 31 called for changes to the state budget, and for any legislation to be published three days before it was voted on, among other things. Proposition 31 was defeated by a vote of over 60% to under 40%, but was a good step in the right direction regarding budget reform in California.

    In 2012, the City of Canada Bay Council proposed an innovative method of deliberative democracy  to obtain the advice of citizens in making decisions for the range and quality of council services for the period 2014-18. With this in mind, the Canada Bay Council partnered with  groups such as Straight Talk and newDemocracy to create a panel of 36 randomly citizens. This group worked in parallel to a randomly selected group of council staff.
