    Introduction

    In 2010 the Emilia-Romagna Region approved law no. 3/10 regarding citizen participation in decisions of public interest. The Region used this method in the development of a new regional transport plan. The current Regional Integrated Transportation Plan covered the time period 1998-2010. When drafting the new law, the Region decided to use participation as a mean to gather suggestions and solutions concerning transport and mobility issues. The Regional Department of Territorial Planning promoted the event, that was supported by an outside firm (Avventura Urbana).

    CONTENT AND PURPOSES

    In January 2008, the Municipality of Livorno decided to experiment an innovative type of decision making process concerning the renewal and the future use of the 'Cisternino', an ancient building historically used for water supply. The process was proposed by a citizen association, the “Laboratory for the future of Livorno”. The process had the ambitious goal to reflect on the present situation of the historical building and imagine a desirable future on the basis of the past.

    Developing a Framework for a Mental Health Strategy for Canada was a project started by the Mental Health Commission of Canada that took place from June 2008 until September 2009. The goal of the project was to increase awareness of the issue of mental health to the nation and to create and frame an official strategy for the country of Canada to adhere to, in order to properly address the issue as a unified nation.
