MUNICIPALITY OF BUONCONVENTO: LAND USE PLANNING (VARIANTE AL PIANO STRUTTURALE)
Problem and Purpose
Between February 2009 and March of the same year, the Municipality of Buonconvento (Tuscany, Italy) carried out the participatory process firstname.lastname@example.org aimed at updating its Structural Plan; it decided to do so by involving its population in order to solve some critical situations, dealing with 'urban accessibility'.
Citizen Budget (citizenbudget.com) is an online tool for conducting public budget consultations. This customizable budget simulator lets citizens modify certain municipal services and submit realistic, balanced budget proposals that express their budget priorities.
Since 2002, the city of Grenoble, France, has engaged citizens in public decision-making through participatory committees and town meetings. Residents have been able to express their opinions and make recommendations on city planning, education, cultural life, and other municipal issues. Over the years, this program has strengthened local democracy and empowered public participation in important civic projects.
Pittsburgh’s Citizen Participation Plan (CPP) for the 2010-2014 Five Year Consolidated Plan used a combination of civic and community engagement methods to include citizens and civic society in the planning process.
