    Problems and Purpose

    The Alternative University Project (AltU) grew out of the frustration felt by a group of McGill and Concordia University students about the growing inaccessibility of the Quebec higher education system. The AltU is a collection of classes taught by professors, students, community members, or through innovative communal formats on subjects which range from “Knitting” and “Programming” to “Introduction to Anarchism” and “New Materials Writing Workshop and Discussion.”

  • In the context of the perpetual crisis of urban transportation in Bucharest, there is a growing population of city dwellers fighting for bicycle rights and advocating for a new, bicycle friendly infrastructure in Bucharest.  The bicycle fans coagulated since the mid 2000’s into different groups and NGO’s and developed into a new movement and a powerful presence in the urban landscape, adopting several strategies of public participation.

    Problems and Purpose

    The financial and economic crisis, of which we have heard so much discussion since 2007-8, is only one aspect of a whole series of underlying political trends which have been apparent for much longer: a crisis of (in)equality and of increased precarity of the workforce, a human rights crisis, a demographic crisis, an ecological crisis, a crisis in civil liberties, and above all a crisis in democracy.

    In 2012, the City of Canada Bay Council proposed an innovative method of deliberative democracy  to obtain the advice of citizens in making decisions for the range and quality of council services for the period 2014-18. With this in mind, the Canada Bay Council partnered with  groups such as Straight Talk and newDemocracy to create a panel of 36 randomly citizens. This group worked in parallel to a randomly selected group of council staff.

  • Problema y Propósito

    Antes de comentar el caso de la guardia indígena, es importante mencionar que los indígenas son un grupo social bastante específico, por cuanto son ciudadanos, pero no tienen los intereses ni la concepción de un ciudadano regular. Incluso, para algunas tribus indígenas, el ciudadano regular y las instituciones del estado son vistas con desprecio. Y esta particularidad, ha permitido que los indígenas hayan llevado a cabo el proceso de formación de la guardia indígena de la manera como se muestra a continuación.
