    Problems and Purpose

    The Alternative University Project (AltU) grew out of the frustration felt by a group of McGill and Concordia University students about the growing inaccessibility of the Quebec higher education system. The AltU is a collection of classes taught by professors, students, community members, or through innovative communal formats on subjects which range from “Knitting” and “Programming” to “Introduction to Anarchism” and “New Materials Writing Workshop and Discussion.”

    The Student Government at the University of Washington, the Associated Students of the University of Washington, created the Student Senate in 1994. The goal was to have a diverse legislative body to give the Executive body, the Board of Control, advice on issues important to students, prioritize concerns, and offer solutions.

    The International Youth Leadership Conference (IYLC) is a week-long forum held twice a year in Prague, Czech Republic since 2000. The theme of the conference is a “cross-cultural exchange of young ideas concerning the future world leadership”.[1] Issues such as international relations, law, media, business, and global economy are addressed amongst approximately 100 individuals aged 18-24, mostly who are university and college students from 35+ countries.
