The UPR Strike of 2010 (or Huelga del 2010 de la Universidad de Puerto Rico) began on April 21, 2010 as a 48-hour strike at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras campus.
The original version of this case study first appeared on Vitalizing Democracy in 2010 and was a contestant for the 2011 Reinhard Mohn Prize. It was originally submitted by Peter Levine.
This case study was written by Sandy Heierbacher, Director of the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation (NCDD), in 2001 as part of an independent consultancy for the Center for Disease Control's National Immunization Program.
The reforms which have swept through public education during the last two decades have largely been initiated in state legislatures or the United States Congress. The greater part of all these reform efforts have focused on the professional side of public education.
