    Problems and Purpose

    The Alternative University Project (AltU) grew out of the frustration felt by a group of McGill and Concordia University students about the growing inaccessibility of the Quebec higher education system. The AltU is a collection of classes taught by professors, students, community members, or through innovative communal formats on subjects which range from “Knitting” and “Programming” to “Introduction to Anarchism” and “New Materials Writing Workshop and Discussion.”

    Problems and Purpose

    The community of Bethany conducted concept and comprehensive community planning for three reasons: 1. To meet various applicable state, regional, county and community planning objectives. 
2. To identify necessary urban infrastructure requirements, and
 3. To ensure that provisions for such infrastructure to serve the greater North Bethany area are fully in place before development begins. Public involvement has been a fundamental part of the planning process to facilitate an exchange of information and build awareness.

    Oregon Citizens’ Initiative Review Measure 85 is a ballot initiative examined by the Oregon Citizen’s Initiative Review Commission in Oregon State. Citizens’ Initiative Review of Ballot Measure 85 is a proposal titled “Amends Constitution: Allocates Corporate Income/Excise Tax ‘Kicker’ Refund To Additionally Fund K Through 12 Public Education” (Healthy Democracy). A panel of 24 registered voters from Oregon gathered at the Salem Conference Center in Salem, Oregon to deliberate and evaluate Ballot Measure 85.
