  • Researchers at the W. Maurice Young Centre for Applied Ethics, University of British Columbia (UBC), conducted two deliberative forums on the topic of human tissue biobanking: The BC Biobank Deliberation (2007) and the BC Biolibrary Deliberation (2009). In both cases, members of the public from across British Columbia were invited to two weekends of deliberation about biobanks. Biobanks are large collections of human biological tissue that are used for research.

    Summary

    Dialogue with the City’s aim was to make Perth the “world’s most livable city by 2030.” It was a process of engaging Perth and the grater area’s citizens in developing a planning strategy for the capital of Australia’s growing city. The Government of Australia wanted a jointly develop a plan for the future of Perth with those people who will sustain the growth of the city in the future.

  • Problems and Purpose

    G1000 is a project to revitalize and "advise" Belgium's current representative democratic system by complementing it with deliberative democracy.  It is a response to the increasing ineffectiveness of the representative democracy system, as evidenced in part by the 2010-11 parliamentary crisis.

  • The Deliberative Poll that took place in Marousi, Greece in the summer of 2006, was a Deliberative Polling experiment used for the selection of a candidate for mayor by the PASOK political party. The process consisted of an initial phone survey of 1,275 Marousi citizens, a follow-up survey completed by 153 citizens, and a final survey occurring after a day of deliberations of 138 citizens.

    The objective of the Citizens' Jury on Energy Economics and Security for New South Wales for the Public Accounts Committee of the NSW Parliament was  to agree on an order of preference, barriers to adoption (including financial aspects and public perception issues) and recommended course of action with regard to alternative forms of energy generation in NSW. In order to do that, first it was the jury's role to address the problems and barriers of implementing these alternative means of energy.
