Advancing the Future for Adults with Autism is an organization that works closely with America Speaks to better the lives of adults with autism. In 2009 AFFA held a National Town Hall Meeting to create a national policy agenda which AFFA plans to propose to Congress.
The Student Government at the University of Washington, the Associated Students of the University of Washington, created the Student Senate in 1994. The goal was to have a diverse legislative body to give the Executive body, the Board of Control, advice on issues important to students, prioritize concerns, and offer solutions.
Researchers at the W. Maurice Young Centre for Applied Ethics, University of British Columbia (UBC), conducted two deliberative forums on the topic of human tissue biobanking: The BC Biobank Deliberation (2007) and the BC Biolibrary Deliberation (2009). In both cases, members of the public from across British Columbia were invited to two weekends of deliberation about biobanks. Biobanks are large collections of human biological tissue that are used for research.
The Edmonton Citizen Panel 2008 was organized collaboratively by the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta, bringing together women and men of diverse ages, incomes, cultural backgrounds, and experience to learn about and discuss their city's budget priorities. The goal was to gather informed citizen opinion for City Council to consider seriously as input into the subsequent year’s budget process.
The International Youth Leadership Conference (IYLC) is a week-long forum held twice a year in Prague, Czech Republic since 2000. The theme of the conference is a “cross-cultural exchange of young ideas concerning the future world leadership”. Issues such as international relations, law, media, business, and global economy are addressed amongst approximately 100 individuals aged 18-24, mostly who are university and college students from 35+ countries.
