Definition

Habitat Conservation Planning (HCP) in the U.S. is a plan that prepared under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) by nonfederal parties who want to obtain permits for the incidental taking of threatened and endangered species. They are planning documents that describe the anticipated effects of the proposed take permit. It must also describe how those impacts will be minimized or mitigated and how the HCP is to be funded. They have to ensure that the species will be conserved and that they will contribute to their recovery.

Definition

A workers’ council is a method of governance by workers of themselves through selected delegates sent to represent them either through direct positions of leadership or through communication with those in positions of power or management. The management of a workplace or an enterprise comes together with the selected delegates to negotiate and bargain on issues selected by the workers to be the agenda of the discussions.

Obesity is still a prevailing problem in the United States. It is also the second leading cause of preventable death. Statistics show that about 33.8% of American adults are obese. The percentage of children who are considered overweight is also an alarming approximate 17%. The issue has provoked large reactions from various foundations, government and private organizations to support organized interventions.

Problems and Purpose

The 2008 National Citizens’ Technology Forum was a series of online and face-to-face meetings across the United States with the goal of obtaining citizen recommendations on how to deal with the new technologies such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technologies, and cognitive science (henceforth known as NBIC technologies). Organizers hoped that these recommendations would influence future government policy.

In 2010, the Russian Ministry of Education asked Wikivote to develop a crowdsource platform for evaluating and editing the draft of the new Law on Education. The goals were to include Russian experts, teachers, and parents in a detailed analysis of the Law's concepts and items and solicit ideas for improving the Law.
