Problems and Purpose

The Neighbourhood Recovery programme "I Love My Neighbourhood" (ILMN – programme Quiero Mi Barrio in spanish) was developed and implemented by the administration of former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet (2006-2010). The main purpose of the programme – which was carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) – is to improve the quality of life in 200 districts of the country with problems of urban decay and social vulnerability.

Problems and Purpose

From October to December, 2012, 56 Edmontonians gathered to deliberate about climate change and energy vulnerability in a municipal policy making context. The Panel worked together over six day-long sessions. The Session Reports give a day-by-day overview of main deliberation activities.

Problems and Purpose

 

The management of public space is frequently completed without incorporating the major stakeholders. This all translates into the non-appropriation of space on the behalf of neighbors. This simultaneously leads to a minimized use and neglected maintenance of the space.

To reverse this situation a major diffusion of information and communal participation is necessary in making decisions, sharing responsibilities as well as resources, and improving control by users and respective communities for more efficient management.

Mission and Purpose

European Alternatives is a transnational membership organisation promoting democracy, equality and culture beyond the nation state. The nation state is no longer the appropriate political form in which to define democratic decision-making and active citizenship, equality between people, the respect and extension of rights. The nation state is not the appropriate political form to promote a responsible politics for the environment, ensure political control over the economy and an equitable distribution of wealth, or promote peace between people.
