By the People works with community organization, colleges and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to create events for citizens, that normally do not interact with each other, to takes their views about issues of the day and deliberate on them while contributing their opinions to the national discussion.
There have been many organizations that have worked to create dialogues between people of opposing views in order to constructively address conflicts that are important to the people but the way they do this is what has received different organizations attentions. The Public Conversations Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to train and promote everyone from single individuals to other organizations in being able to beneficially discuss issues that are important to them and the world.
The Deliberative Democracy Consortium (DDC) is an association of the leading organizations and scholars who work in the field of deliberation and public engagement. The DDC represents more than 50 foundations, nonprofit organizations, and universities, who work together to strengthen deliberation in democracy. The DDC supports research activities and promotes the advancement of deliberative practices at all levels of government around the world.
MASS LBP's work goes far beyond polling or focus groups. From conception to execution to evaluation, MASS LBP designs and delivers highly innovative engagement strategies that increase public understanding, legitimacy and support for complex decisions and policy choices.
History
Inspired by Canada's first Citizens' Assemblies, MASS LBP was founded in 2007 by Peter MacLeod and George Gosbee to extend this model and reinvent public consultation. MASS LBP is based in Toronto with staff in Vancouver, Ottawa and London, UK.
