Ordinary people in northern Uganda participate in informal settings on a daily basis, away from the gaze of those in power. Informal settings allow people to speak their minds with their friends and family, exploring the legitimacy, potential, and power of their concerns.

The Local Equality Action Plan of Kadıköy Municipality was established through the development of gender equality policies in Kadıköy, with the participation of municipality officers, public officers, universities, women’s and LGBTI organizations, NGOs and women and LGBTI persons living in Kadıköy.
Through collective action, residents were able to obtain recognition of Yungay as a national heritage site, gaining national and international attention in their struggle for creating a participatory culture among residents in order to be able to determine the future of their neighbourhood.
