Residents of Eastfield voted on how £32,000 should be spent on projects addressing crime and community safety issues. As well as local people voting for projects at the ‘Decision Day’ in June 2009, residents played a key role in the design and delivery of the process.

In 2013, Vallejo, California became the first American municipality to adopt city-wide participatory budgeting. The main goals of the project were to improve the city’s infrastructure and services, rebuild civic pride, engage underrepresented demographics, grant more decision making power to all residents, and increase government transparency and dialogue with citizens.
