I got my Masters in Political Science at the University of Vienna (Austria) and City University New York. My Masters thesis analyses alternative democratic thought in Russia in the grass roots movement during the Perestroika period. After my Masters I started teaching at the University of Vienna and the University of Hagen (Germany). I started my PhD at the University of Vienna and moved to London after being awarded the Politics and International Relations Studentship at the University of Westminster. The dissertation I'm currently working on at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster looks at the role of social identities and the potential of anonymity in digital democracy.

My research interests include:

- Democratic theory, especially radical/participatory/deliberative/agonistic democratic thought

- Empirical studies of democracy and modes of direct citizen involvement, including social movements' democratic experiences
