The citizen panel for more climate protection in Uster met on two weekends, 28th August and 12th September 2021. 20 randomly drawn residents dealt with how the climate in Uster can be protected, consciously consumed and waste avoided.

The climate assembly was held to figure out how the climate in Uster can be protected, consciously consumed and waste avoided.

Background History and Context

The Uster citizen panel was a first as a dialogue-oriented form of political participation. The Center for Democracy at the University of Zurich supported the project, and the Department of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich provided financial support.

The participants were drawn at random, taking into account certain characteristics such as age, gender, political orientation and education.

What Went On: Process, Interaction, and Participation

After an introduction to the topic and a survey of experts, the participants entered into a dialogue and developed ideas and recommendations for climate protection measures in Uster over two weekends. They developed recommendations in the fields of information transfer, waste and consumption, urban planning and mobility.
