Launched in 2016 as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival's Dealing with the Past programme, the True Stories Market connects filmmakers with organizations that are researching and documenting the Yugoslav Wars and their impact and aftermath on the region and its inhabitants.

Problems and Purpose

The dissolution of the former Yugoslav Republic resulted in a number of wars along ethno-national lines across the region. The long term and ongoing impacts of those conflicts are still felt deeply in some parts of the region, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina where the war was fought along ethno-national lines of the Bosnian Muslim, Serbian and Croatian communities, and where the governmental structure reflects these divisions.

The True Stories Market is an initiative of the Sarajevo Film Festival and aims to connect filmmakers with organizations who are involved in documenting the stories and experiences of people affected by the war and atrocities that were committed.
