The Citizen Conference on Sewage Sludge (Conférence citoyenne sur le devenir des boues domestiques issues des stations d'épuration) was initiated and convened by the French environment ministry as part of a national debate on water. Ultimately, 15 citizens deliberated for 2 days.

The 15 participants were recruited by the polling institute IFOP.

Methods and Tools Used

What Went On: Process, Interaction, and Participation

Participants met for two training sessions and a two-day public conference in which they questioned experts, before they wrote a final report with eighteen recommendations. Note that information about this mini-public is scarce.

Influence, Outcomes, and Effects

A report with 18 policy recommendations was issued upon the conclusion of the conference. It is unclear how it was taken into account by public authorities.
