REPORT-V1.1-FINAL.pdf

Leeds climate assembly brought together 25 randomly selected residents from across the Leeds city region between September and November 2019, to figure out what Leeds could do about the emergency of climate change.

Problems and Purpose

Twenty-five were recruited by delivering four thousand letters across the city region. The jury membership profile reflected our population's diversity and can be seen as a mini version of Leeds. The group met for nearly thirty hours of deliberation over the course of eight weeks to answer the question ‘What should Leeds do about the emergency of climate change?’

Background History and Context

The Leeds Climate Change Citizens Jury was commissioned by the Leeds Climate Commission. The project design was overseen by a project oversight panel made up of a hugely diverse group of key local organisations from the City Council to Extinction Rebellion and youth climate strikers to the Chamber of Commerce. They met parallel to the Citizens’ Jury to agree on how best to recruit the participants and who the commentators or expert witnesses should be that present to the jury
