The Women Solidarity Network (WSN) aims at promoting women's rights, coordinating efforts to improve women's protection, and contributing to peacebuilding in Yemen. We work to implement the CEDAW and the UNSC Women, Peace, and Security Agenda.
What is the Women Solidarity Network:
The Women Solidarity Network started in 2013 as a group on Facebook called "Our Constitution", which includes members of women's leaders in Yemen, to support women's rights in the draft constitution. In 2016, the group was revived by the Peace Track Initiative and the name was changed to the Women's Solidarity Network. Today the network includes more than 270 women members and feminist organizations. Membership is open to individuals and organisations who believe in our values.
We seek to build our country, to protect our dignity, and safeguard our rights.
Our Goals:
1) Women protection, starting with women support to themselves: Women Solidarity Network’s members work to protect each other using our own individual and organizational capacities.
2) Advocating for women’s rights and demands: Women Solidarity Network’s members believe in equality and gender justice. They work to promote women rights in Yemen, inline with the CEDAW and the Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace, and Security.
3) Contributing to peace building: Women Solidarity Network’s members collaborate to build peace, mobilizing our individual and collective efforts inside and outside the country.
Our Values:
1) Solidarity with women against violations and abuse.
2) Encouraging political pluralism, and respecting political diversity in opinions.
3) Enhancing and respecting geographic and regional diversity.
4) The attainment of our rights as women is our greatest goal.
5) The network is open to all women inside and outside the country.
Women Solidarity Network’s relation with Peace Track Initiative:
The Peace Track Initiative acts as a technical secretariat for the WSN to facilitate and coordinate the work of the network.
