The Tree Law of the Argentinian province of Santa Fe had a digital platform for citizen participation promoted by the Ministry of Environment. During 2018, citizens participated with proposals and opinions about the 8 thematic areas of the law.
Problems and Purpose
The Ministry of Environment of Santa Fe engaged the province's citizens in the Santa Fe Tree Law project in 2017, offering citizens the opportunity to participate with online proposals and opinions for the chapters of the law divided in 8 thematic axes: The Tree as Public Interest; Public wooded areas; The Tree: a commitment of all; Deadlines; Authority of Application; Exceptions; Santa Fe Tree Fund; and Sanctions.
The implementation of this participatory tool was part of the Open Government and Public Innovation strategy of the Government of the Province of Santa Fe. The Tree Law was promulgated in 2019 and provides for the elaboration by the community of periodic plans for the management of the public woodland.
