In Ecuador, suffrage is mandatory for all citizens authorized to vote before the National Electoral Council and failure to do so is subject to economic sanctions.

What Went On: Process, Interaction, and Participation
The vote achieved the participation of 82.1% of Ecuadorians. The vote consisted of seven questions for the approval or rejection by the citizens on the issues of corruption, reelection, participation, sexual crimes against children and adolescents, and land and natural protected areas. For both the referendum and the popular consultation, the "yes" vote was overwhelmingly selected on all questions.
