Alessandro Mengozzi holds a bachelor's degree in political sciences (with a dissertation in rural and urban sociology), a master's degree in human geography (local territorial system and negotiated policing) and a PhD in history and geography (with a dissertation on waste governance in Europe).

He collaborated in the legislative process for the regional law on public participation of Emilia-Romagna (2008-2010) and its implementation (till 2014).

He has taught "Communication and territory" at the University of Bologna (2012-2014) and "Territory, participation and community empowerment" at IULM - Milan (2015-2018) as free-lance professor.

He has been a free-lance researcher, involved in the Participedia project, since 2016.
